Doshas — what they are

The 'doshas' Khagol flags are named planetary configurations from the tradition. A dosha's presence is a placement fact — not a prediction, a fault, or a reason for fear. Classical cancellations (parihara) often soften or nullify it, and where a check has no early textual basis, we say so.

Mangala (Manglik) Dosha

Classical

Mars in the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th — the houses tradition ties to marriage and temperament. It is the most-cited pre-marriage check in popular jyotisha.

How it's flagged: Mars occupies the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the Lagna, Moon, or Venus.
Honest note: Many classical cancellations (parihara) apply — Mars in its own or exalted sign, both partners Manglik, or Jupiter's aspect — and controlled studies find no effect on marriage outcomes. One factor, not a verdict.

Kala Sarpa Yoga

Later tradition

All seven classical planets hemmed on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis. Tradition associates it with intensity and a slow, delayed release of results.

How it's flagged: All seven planets fall on one side of the Rahu-Ketu axis.
Honest note: Not found in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra or the classical Hora texts — a 20th-century construct whose 'severity' is widely disputed. Presence alone signifies little.

Ganda Moola

Classical

The Moon at a Gandanta 'knot' nakshatra ruled by Mercury or Ketu — a sensitive water–fire junction. Muhurta texts prescribe a calming (shanti) rite after birth.

How it's flagged: The birth Moon lies in a Gandanta nakshatra (Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Moola, or Revati).
Honest note: A junction marker, not a misfortune. Its weight is graded by pada and, in the tradition, largely limited to the newborn period.

Pitru Dosha

Folk / Puranic

A luminary (Sun or Moon) afflicted by Rahu/Ketu or Saturn — read in tradition as unsettled ancestral karma (pitru-rina) carried into this life.

How it's flagged: A luminary (Sun or Moon) is afflicted by Rahu/Ketu or Saturn, per the classical rule.
Honest note: Largely Puranic and folk rather than a crisp Hora rule; this is one common operational definition among several. Framed as remembrance of ancestors, not blame.

Guru Chandala Yoga

Classical

Jupiter conjunct Rahu or Ketu — the 'teacher' joined to the shadow. Tradition reads a tension between received wisdom and an unconventional, rule-bending drive.

How it's flagged: Jupiter is conjunct Rahu or Ketu.
Honest note: A conjunction yoga, not a fixed fate — Jupiter's own strength and aspects modify it heavily. Many hold it also sharpens original, boundary-crossing thinking.
